Seeking Director of Marketing

We are seeking a self-directed and passionate Director of Marketing. As DoM you will be responsible for building Beacon’s brand presence and driving network growth.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, leader, & self-starter with experience in marketing, social media, communications, or public relations.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Lead the marketing department, directing interns in the regular creation, posting, and sharing of content that illustrates what Beacon is and tells our story.

    • Be able to provide clear direction and consistent support for team members and interns

    • Lead weekly meetings to ensure department cohesion and adherence to standards

    • Have weekly check-ins with the Co-Directors to stay involved with overall mission and strategy, and keep all departments working together smoothly.

    • Attend bi-weekly full-team meetings that give all departments and staff a chance to get to know each other and see the big picture.

  • Presence: Ensure high visibility of our content and products, threaded into a cohesive and concise telling of the Beacon story.

    • Create and circulate content regularly on social media channels and to our mailing list.

    • Devise and help implement on-the-ground marketing campaigns to boost local participation and membership.

    • Develop and execute marketing strategies, programs, and campaigns to connect with potential members, supporters, and partners.

    • Bonus: Use SEO and analytic services to improve visibility and engagement

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Head of Public Relations and the Community Liaisons to amplify the good work highlighted and facilitated on Beacon.

  • Communication: Develop and maintain effective communication channels both internally and externally, ensuring the organization's message is effectively conveyed.

  • Metrics and Analysis: Monitor and report on the impact of outreach efforts, using data to make informed decisions and improvements.

  • Team Development: Train and mentor Circulation Department staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as communication, public relations, marketing, or a related discipline. A master's degree may be preferred but is not required.

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in outreach, community engagement, or a related field, with a proven track record of success.

  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and management abilities, including the capacity to motivate and guide a team effectively.

  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate the organization's mission and values clearly and persuasively.

  • Self-Starter: Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative, work independently, and make strategic decisions.

  • Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to develop and implement effective outreach initiatives.

  • Adaptability: The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and our evolving start-up nonprofit.

  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for outreach and communication.

  • Understanding of Asheville, North Carolina: Knowledge of the Asheville area and its intricate political and social landscape is a huge plus!

Duration:

  • Applications close on January 4th, 2024

  • Prefer to begin work on February 5th, 2024

  • Part-time work, expected to dedicate 10 to 15 hours each week

Compensation:

  • This is an unpaid opportunity. We are all currently volunteer staff.

  • Based on performance & Beacon’s success by June of 2024, we hope to provide stipends to our leadership team.

Location:

  • This position is hybrid

  • Applicant will be expected to travel in or around the Greater Asheville, NC area once per week

  • A modest travel stipend will be provided
