The Power of Connection

As word about the platform builds momentum, I find myself reminded daily of why I became dedicated to this vision in the first place. There is nothing more powerful than the cooperation of empowered individuals. A single person may be a master of skill or craft, but there will always be a narrow channel of what may be accomplished alone. Together, that channel expands and spills open to literally limitless potential.

And that’s what Beacon is all about: facilitating that unlimited potential. The magic of our combined power is always possible but, in a world inundated by media, it’s often missed. Today, nearly everyone is online and yet, in a world fraught with unprecedented challenges, it’s easy to feel disconnected and driven by circumstance.

Beacon is an assertion that things can be otherwise -we can use technology to connect and collaborate in ways never before possible in the modern world.

From where I sit on my porch, facing the Black Mountains of western North Carolina, I can collaborate with friends, allies, and associates all across the globe. The Beacon board of directors alone span across three time zones. With the ease of a phone call I can get expert advice on everything from programming and tech development to strategies for effective mutual aid.

Through collaboration and sharing, people can accomplish anything. Community leaders can team up with doctors and farmers to bring Covid tests, vaccines, and food to those most hurt by the crisis. Neighbors can transform vacant lots and abandoned spaces into community gardens. Neighbors can hold their elected officials accountable, and stay coordinated and informed on issues that matter to them.

Abundance can be shared, expert help lended, and whole communities can raise each other up, maximizing everyone’s strengths and offerings in a net of effective interconnection.

Now that we are getting out the word, we’re so excited to be met with enthusiasm  matching our own. Folks are tired of having to navigate profit-driven media-centric platforms just to stay in touch with their communities and friends. People want a way to connect that is simple, effective, and transparent. The technology already exists, and the costs to build and maintain it are more than affordable.

Together, we can build a platform for us and by us, that makes our connections stronger and our lives richer. We can make technology that builds community and bolsters those things that matter to us most, whatever they may be.
