Seeking Director of Development

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Development. As DoD, you will be responsible for leading the grants department, securing donor relationships, and spearheading our organization into a state of financial sustainability. You will work directly alongside the Director of Operations.

The ideal candidate is a leader, detail-oriented, and has a track record of successful grant writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Lead and manage the grants department, providing guidance, supervision, and support to team members responsible for grant writing and donor relations.

  • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure financial resources for the organization's programs and initiatives.

  • Grant Writing: Write and review grant proposals, ensuring they are compelling, well-researched, and aligned with the organization's goals.

  • Donor Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing and potential donors, including individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the Director of Operations to ensure the development department's efforts align with the organization's operational needs and goals.

  • Data Analysis: Use data and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and make data-driven decisions to improve outcomes.

  • Stewardship: Ensure that donors are acknowledged and engaged in the organization's activities, demonstrating the impact of their support.

  • Compliance: Stay informed about relevant regulations and compliance requirements in the nonprofit sector, especially as they pertain to grant management and reporting.

  • Financial Sustainability: Work to establish and maintain financial sustainability for Beacon by diversifying funding sources, seeking new opportunities, and managing existing donor relationships effectively.

Requirements:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nonprofit management, fundraising, business, or a related discipline. A master's degree or a professional certification in fundraising may be preferred.

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in nonprofit fundraising and grant writing, including a successful track record of securing grants and donations.

  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and management abilities, with the capacity to lead and inspire a team.

  • Grant Writing: Demonstrated expertise in grant writing and the ability to craft persuasive proposals.

  • Fundraising Strategy: Proven ability to develop and implement successful fundraising strategies and campaigns.

  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail, especially in managing budgets and donor records.

  • Networking: An extensive network of connections in the nonprofit and fundraising sectors.

  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in using data and analytics to inform fundraising decisions and strategies.

  • Motivation: High levels of motivation, passion, and dedication to the organization's mission and financial sustainability.

Duration:

  • Applications close on January 4th, 2024

  • Prefer to begin work on February 5th, 2024

  • Part-time work, expected to dedicate 10 to 15 hours each week

Compensation:

  • This is an unpaid opportunity. We are all currently volunteer staff.

  • Based on performance & Beacon’s success by June of 2024, we hope to provide stipends to our leadership team.

Location:

  • This position is remote, with occasional in-person meetings or events that the DoD is encouraged but not required to attend
