Community Cookout: You’re Invited!

Hi all!

Join us for a Community Cookout on May 30th, 4-7 pm, at Birdfoot (10 Orchard Dr) in Burnsville!

This is a chance to come together and connect as neighbors—sharing about and supporting the good work happening in our community and collectively shaping the road ahead as we recover from Helene. And just as importantly, it’s a chance to have some fun. We’ll welcome the summer season, laugh, play, and celebrate how far we’ve come together.

Here’s what we’ve got planned:

  • 📣 Open mic time — Make announcements, share available resources or local needs, invite folks to something you’re organizing, or spread the word about an issue you’re working on

  • 🍔 Free food for everyone — burgers and hot dogs (with gluten-free and vegetarian options available)

  • 🥗 Potluck-style sides welcome (optional!) — bring something to share if you’d like, but no pressure at all

  • 🎶 Acoustic old-time jam (4–5 PM) — bring your fiddle/banjo/guitar and jump in if you play

  • 🎨 Face painting for kids (and kids at heart!)

  • 🌱 River cane distribution + “Cane Train” sign-ups

  • 🤝 Info from Beacon + partners about ongoing Helene recovery/resiliency work and ways to be involved

Whether you come to connect, share, listen, or just hang out with a plate of food and good company, you’re part of what makes this community what it is and we’d be thrilled to have you with us.

Bring a friend, bring your instrument, bring a side… or just bring yourself.

Warmly,

The Beacon Team
